The four Chapter degrees

Degree 1 of 4

Mark Master Mason

Set among the builders of King Solomon's Temple, the Mark degree teaches that honest work deserves its due, and that what others reject may prove to be of the highest value.

How to begin

A clear first step

  1. Step 1

    Connect with a local Chapter

Find a meeting near you, or ask us to help you choose based on location and schedule.

  2. Step 2

    Meet a Royal Arch Mason

Ask your questions. Visit if invited. There is no pressure to petition on the first contact.

  3. Step 3

    Petition when you are ready

An approved petition leads to degree scheduling. An inquiry does not guarantee acceptance or a date.

Answers for Master Masons

Can I become a Royal Arch Mason without committing to Council or Commandery?

Yes. Begin with a Royal Arch Chapter. Council and Commandery are separate steps you may explore later when you are ready.

Do I need to have served as Worshipful Master?

No. A Master Mason in good standing may petition a Delaware Royal Arch Chapter. The Past Master degree in Chapter is part of the Chapter work and is not the same as having occupied the East in your Lodge.

What are the religious requirements for Chapter?

Chapter membership follows the same foundational requirements as Craft Masonry. There is no separate Christian profession required for Royal Arch membership in Delaware.

How are those different from Commandery’s requirements?

Commandery membership requires a profession of belief in the Christian religion, per Grand Encampment requirements. That affirmation belongs to Commandery, not to Chapter.

Can I meet someone before I petition?

Yes. Use Connect with a Chapter or Ask a Royal Arch Mason on a Chapter card. An introduction is often the best first step.

What if I do not know any Royal Arch Masons?

That is common. Send an introduction request and we will help you meet a Brother who can answer questions and guide you to a Chapter.

Can I join if my Lodge is in Pennsylvania, Maryland, or another jurisdiction?

Often yes, when you are a Master Mason in good standing. Delaware Chapters will confirm any visitation or petition requirements with you. Ask through the introduction form so we can give Delaware-approved guidance for your situation.

What are the degree fees and annual dues at my Chapter?

Each Chapter sets its own fees and dues. Ask the membership contact for the current amounts before you petition. They will confirm them with you before degrees are scheduled.

What attendance is expected after receiving the degrees?

Schedules vary by Chapter. Some meet monthly, some on alternate months, and Daylight Chapter meets in the afternoon. Most are dark in summer. Your Chapter will explain local expectations when you join.
